Together, We are Frogs First

This blog has been made by different leaders involved in TCU's programs SGA and Greek life. We have seen and addressed the problem of segregation between non-Greek and Greek students and our goal is to end this segregation and become more unified. This blog is to help better inform the TCU community and more specifically student body how we can come together as a unified family. The term "Frogs First" is coming from the idea that before we identify ourselves with what organizations we are involved in at TCU, we must remember we are a TCU student and HORNED FROG FIRST. This blog is also a place for YOU to place your opinions by commenting on any of the posts.

TCU Frogs First

TCU Panhellinic Presidents

Throughout the past few years TCU's Greek life has risen up to 46% of our student body. Now more than ever there is a noticeable segregation between students who are Greek and students who are Non-Greek. With that comes the stereotype and division of economic class. If TCU truly strives to be a united student body we must come together and build a bridge over this division.

A few steps TCU SGA and Greek life have come up with together is to create more school wide events where the whole student body is invited not just individual organizations. We are also working on making all the different philantrhopy events a more community wide experience. TCU Greek life is also working on making it more financially convenient to join a sorority or fraternity by offering more scholarships starting in the beginning of the rush process.

We will add more posts with details about these up coming events.

Frog Answers

To help with this problem SGA has decided to fund Greek with some money specifically for scholarships students can apply for before the recruitment process. The different organizations are also required to use some of the money they raise in their philanthropies to the scholarship fund. These scholarships will be offered this next recruitment season. and you will be able to find more information on them at http://www.greeks.tcu.edu/

5k

An upcoming event for the whole TCU community to be involved in is Kappa Alpha Theta's annual 5k that raises money for CASA. With TCU communities help and involvement they have been able to raise over $40,000 the past two years. Lets keep that going and help out our own Fort Worth's CASA facility. This is a great event for everyone to come together on a Saturday morning. There will be breakfast provided as well. So get those running or walking shoes ready and join in on the 5k.

First Annual Frogs Ball

We are very excited to announce TCU's first annual Frogs Ball. We decided that we needed to all come together to celebrate being Horned Frogs with a formal dance event. Several organizations have their own separate events, so we want to have one with everyone.

Frog Problems

As we have mentioned before, there is a division on our campus among the Non-Greek and Greek students. A big factor to this problem is socioeconomic.  Because organizations tend to keep to themselves so much on our campus, there is little interaction between other ones as well. Then there is the problem that some students would like to join organizations but can't afford it. What many students aren't aware of is that there are scholarship opportunities for Greek students within the organizations. "If I would have known about these scholarships, I probably would have joined"-TCU student Ben.
